Theory's Background Before Howard Gardner invented the multiple intelligence theory, he started to wonder about the traditional definition of intelligence on which were test based in the 1970’s. He worked with many talented people and came to realize that they had many gifts that weren't necessarily based on the traditional definition of intelligence. In 1983, he published a novel called the "Frames of Minds" which summarizes the seven different types of multiple intelligence; 10 years later he added the eighth type of intelligence. This theory helped others understand the ways in which humans intelligence exist.
